Monday 19th February 2018 at Heathrow airport, my first flight departs at 10:00 am with an estimated duration time of 12 hours.
Leaving the UK to arrival in Ozamiz will be a 3 day journey, depart 19th arrive 21st, there is additional waiting time between flights, the journey time can be shortened if you are willing to pay a higher premium.
This flight takes me to Kuala Lumpur the capital of Malaysia from there a 2nd flight takes me to Manila, capital of Philippines, about 4 hours flying.
From Manila a 3rd flight takes me to Ozamiz on Mindanao island, this only takes under 2 hours. On arrival at Manila airport goto terminal 3, there is a FREE bus shuttle, the regularity of the bus doesn’t seem to run by any specific timetable so expect a wait of +/- one hour, you can get a TAXI, however the rates are somewhat inflated, I personally waited for the shuttle bus.
It would be more direct crossing over sea from Malaysia to Mindanao island, Ozamiz port rather than flying to Manila and transferring to a flight for Ozamiz.
18 months in the planning, now I am minutes away from a new chapter in my life.
“I had three seats to myself so I stretched out and slept most of the way”
Once arriving at T3 Manila I now had a 12 hour wait until the domestic flight to Ozamiz.
The shops and cafes are on the 4th floor, there is a smoking area on the ground floor, this is situated down some stairs in a caged in area however I did find a smoking lounge on the 4th floor where you can have a bite to eat and a coffee.
If you should find yourself waiting for a flight transfer then use the entrance/exit point by gate ‘B’, the guards will more than likely recognize you when you go through the exit point to browse upstairs and will most likely allow you to re-enter the check in area without the need for you to show your passport and ticket again. I have since learnt that they may not ask for your lighter to be handed over so on initial check in go for the entrance at the far end near gate ‘B’.
Wednesday 21st Feb 2018 and finally reached Ozamiz and met my Filipino family.
